The Melbourne Argonauts is Australia’s first LGBTIQ+ rowing club and one of only a handful of independent LGBTIQ+ rowing clubs in the world.
We aim to create a friendly inclusive environment for those who want to row socially or competitively. We are a club where people meet, connect and grow in a nurturing and positive environment. We value diversity, fun, openness, inclusiveness and an active lifestyle.
VALE CHRIS THOMAS - DOWAGER D'ARGONAUTS
It is with deep sadness we acknowledge that our beloved Chris Thomas passed away on the morning of Wednesday 14 July 2021.
Chris was President of the Argonauts, reigning from 2003-2009, and has always been deeply admired and respected within the club and our community.
Known by many as 'The Dowager', with a boat named in his honour, Chris contributed an enormous amount to our club and helped it grow into what it is today. He was an absolutely gorgeous character and always delight to be around.
Our hearts go out to Chris' family and friends at this time.
We run two programs, Learn To Row and Return To Row, through out the year as a way to introduce you to rowing as a sport and to our club.

our Partners & supporters
We are honoured that our patron is The Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG, former High Court judge and well-known human rights activist, LGBTIQ advocate and continued work with HIV/AIDS and the global right to health.
To show our pride for our patron in 2018 we named the new addition to our fleet, a Hudson Eight, after him.
